I have a degree specifically in watercolor painting from the University of North Texas. Watercolor is very rarely used to its full potential. It has the ability to be rich, bold, translucent, and fluid. Through the centuries watercolor has been looked down on as only a study material and not worthy of a finished work of art. This is such a sad misconception. Watercolor is a very different animal and you can progress so much faster if you have someone who knows the ropes. I was lucky enough to be in one of the only schools that had a program dedicated to the exploration of this medium. I love to lay out a frame work of techniques to help students explore their art. From there, exploring those techniques and how they interact with one another. Art is an incredible amount of fun, but it is like every other skill, you have to practice to get better. No one is just gifted with all the ability and any one can become a good artist if they are willing to put in the time and effort.
